Let’s continue with Work Wound #4 and Part 4 of the Law of Action.

Compassionate Lens for Work Wound #4: The Exhausting Grind

Let’s now bring a compassionate lens to the exhausting grind: that experience of forcing ourselves to work even when we are tired, even when we need to rest. In the grind, work becomes being a machine and loses all trace of the joys of being human.

The conventional approach to work creates mountains of work that are overwhelming, and people often don’t know where to start. They force themselves into the mountain of work, and it ultimately becomes an exhausting grind.

This work wound creates a profound disconnection from our bodies, our rhythms, and our humanity. We override our need for rest, integration, and spaciousness. We push through exhaustion as if it’s a badge of honor. We measure our worth by how much we produce rather than by the quality of our presence.

For spiritual entrepreneurs who are deeply sensitive and often empathic, this grinding energy is especially damaging. It depletes the very resource that makes your work powerful—your capacity to hold space, to channel guidance, to be present with nuance and wisdom.

The exhausting grind isn’t just about working too many hours. It’s about working in a way that’s fundamentally at odds with sustainable human energy. It’s about treating yourself like a machine that should run continuously, rather than honoring yourself as a living being with natural cycles of expansion and rest.

💡 How This Shows Up in Spiritual Entrepreneurs

For healers and intuitives, this exhausting grind wound manifests in a heartbreaking way:

The Capacity Collapse: You say yes to every client who reaches out because “they need help” and you feel guilty setting boundaries. You work evenings and weekends because “it’s my passion, not really work.” You skip meals, cut short your meditation practice, and push through when your body is asking for rest—all while telling yourself this is what it takes to build a spiritual business. Then one day you realize you’re too depleted to do the deep work you’re called to do. Your readings feel flat. Your healing sessions lack the potency they once had. You’ve given so much that there’s nothing left, and the business you built through grinding has become a prison. This isn’t dedication—it’s a wound that tells you your worth is measured by how much you sacrifice.

Law of Action Part 4

Milanovich and McCune conclude their teaching on the Universal Law of Action by saying,

“A second problem is that we may not understand the actions or steps that are required to get to where we want to be. Knowing how to develop a program, or how to take the many smaller actions that lead to our desired goals, is an essential part of striving to achieve. We may not have the will to persist in our beliefs and actions when we encounter conflict or difficulty. Persistence and the ability to stay with a dream constitute a critical part of success.”

Trauma-Informed Persistence

This is trauma-informed practice. Rather than overwhelming ourselves with massive projects, we break it down into bite-sized pieces that lead to the completion of the project.

But let’s be clear about what Milanovich and McCune are teaching here—and what they’re NOT teaching.

Understanding the Steps (Not Grinding Through Them)

When they say “we may not understand the actions or steps that are required to get to where we want to be,” they’re pointing to a knowledge gap, not a capacity problem.

Many spiritual entrepreneurs feel overwhelmed not because they lack dedication, but because they genuinely don’t know the sequence of steps that build a sustainable business. You might know how to facilitate profound healing, but not know:

  • How to structure a client journey that generates referrals
  • What marketing actually means when it’s aligned with your values
  • How to price your work so it’s both accessible and sustainable
  • What systems to put in place so you’re not manually doing everything

This isn’t a character flaw. This is a learnable skill set.

The exhausting grind happens when you try to figure it all out alone, simultaneously, while also serving clients and managing all the other aspects of life. You’re not lazy for feeling overwhelmed by this—you’re simply trying to build something complex without a blueprint.

The Many Smaller Actions

Here’s where the trauma-informed approach becomes essential: “knowing how to take the many smaller actions that lead to our desired goals.”

Notice: SMALLER actions. Not massive, overwhelming, force-yourself-to-produce actions.

When you’re healing from the exhausting grind wound, you need to relearn what sustainable action actually looks like:

Bite-sized steps might mean:

  • This week, I’m only focusing on clarifying my core offer (not building the whole funnel)
  • Today, I’m writing one email to my list (not launching a whole campaign)
  • This month, I’m implementing one new system (not overhauling my entire business)

This is the opposite of the grind. This is strategic, spacious, sustainable action that honors your nervous system’s capacity for integration.

Each smaller action completed builds confidence. Each step taken from groundedness rather than panic creates momentum that doesn’t require grinding to maintain.

Persistence vs. Pushing Through

Now here’s the nuanced teaching: Milanovich and McCune talk about “the will to persist in our beliefs and actions when we encounter conflict or difficulty.”

This is NOT about pushing through exhaustion. This is NOT about grinding when your body is asking you to stop.

True persistence—the kind that leads to sustainable success—is about:

  • Staying committed to your soul-aligned goals even when the path isn’t linear
  • Continuing to show up for your work even when you don’t see immediate results
  • Maintaining your belief in your gifts even when you face rejection or doubt
  • Returning to your practice after rest, after difficulty, after setbacks

This is resilient persistence, not grinding persistence.

You rest when you need to rest. You adjust when you need to adjust. You take the smaller action today, and another smaller action tomorrow. You stay with the dream without sacrificing yourself to it.

Staying With the Dream

“The ability to stay with a dream” is the essence of the Universal Law of Action.

But staying with a dream doesn’t mean:

  • Working until you collapse
  • Overriding your body’s signals
  • Sacrificing relationships, health, and joy
  • Grinding yourself down to prove you’re “serious”

Staying with a dream means:

  • Returning to it even after periods of rest
  • Taking the next right action from a grounded place
  • Trusting the process even when progress feels slow
  • Honoring both your commitment AND your capacity

This is Sacred Commerce. The journey toward your dream IS the spiritual practice. And spiritual practice includes rest, integration, spaciousness, and self-compassion.

The Bridge: From Grinding to Sacred Rhythm

The Universal Law of Action, when integrated with all four work wound healings, reveals itself as something entirely different from conventional business pressure.

It’s not about:

  • Producing NOW (Work Wound #1)
  • Making money NOW (Work Wound #2)
  • Working from fear and trauma (Work Wound #3)
  • Grinding until you collapse (Work Wound #4)

It IS about:

  • Grounded, soul-aligned goals that feel good in your body
  • Spacious plans that honor your capacity and rhythms
  • Actions taken from love, passion, and true desire
  • Sustainable persistence that includes rest and integration

When you engage the Law of Action from this healed place, your business becomes an expression of your wholeness. Your work flows. Your gifts circulate. Your income becomes sustainable.

And you discover that Sacred Commerce isn’t about working harder—it’s about working from your essence, in partnership with the natural rhythms of creation itself.
